What an energetic and creative afternoon we had at Neighbourhood Studio for our “Paint a Chair” workshop!
Kids dove headfirst into the world of Cubism, the revolutionary art movement pioneered by Pablo Picasso and modern artist Romero Britto. They learned how Cubist artists broke down everyday objects into geometric shapes, showed multiple perspectives at once, and played with bold, vibrant colors instead of realistic representation.
After a short, engaging teaching session on Cubism, each child sketched their own unique design directly onto a small wooden chair. Then came the fun part — choosing from a huge selection of acrylic paints and bringing their vision to life with bright pinks, electric blues, sunny yellows, deep purples, and more!
The focus and concentration from the kids was incredible. For a full 120 minutes, they stayed completely absorbed in their painting, carefully layering colors, blending edges, and turning simple white chairs into one-of-a-kind Cubist masterpieces.
At the end of the session, every child proudly took home their finished painted chair — a functional piece of art they can actually use (or display!) at home. It was wonderful to see their confidence grow as they transformed something ordinary into something truly personal and artistic.
A huge thank you to all the talented young artists who joined us, and to the parents for supporting such a hands-on creative experience. These workshops are all about giving kids the freedom to explore, experiment, and create something they’re genuinely proud of.
Give your child a fun Cubism painting adventure — they’ll create their own cool, usable painted piece!
Neighbourhood Studio’s tiny workshops let kids explore Cubism — the game-changing movement by Picasso & Braque that smashed objects into funky geometric shapes and multiple views.
Looking forward to the next creative session at NBH Studio! 🎨🪑✨
